Hull #19 owner found!

I just received an email from Skip MacElhannon who owns hull number 19 - Wind Dancer II, a cutter rig. As of March 2011: On the hard for full overhaul and new name to be determined. Owner Skip MacElhannon is in Gainesville Florida and the boat is in the woods just outside Alachua FL (about 5 miles from the Hunter boats plant).   Bottom shaved and starting epoxy barrier coat soon.  All new standing rigging including new chainplates and Harken roller furling will to go on at launch time. Wind Daner II has the original Westerbeke engine and is reported to run great after Skip motored all the way from New England to FL.

See the Owners page for info on all owners! If you have further updates please email  them.

Zincs

From Pearson Currents - Bill Shaw Answers the Mail:
Question:
Currently (pun intended) we are having some electrolysis problems. Our zincs are being eaten away every 2-3 months and I’m noticing deterioration of our through-hulls. Any ideas about the diagnosis of our problems?

Tuning The Rig

by Bill Shaw

The following generally applies to cruising boats where once the rig is set to maintain a straight mast, no further adjustment is necessary.

Preparation
Make sure:
  • weights, sails, anchors, rodes, life rafts or dingys are in their normal place while sailing;
  • all halyards are set up tight;
  • fuel & water is either full or nearly empty;
  • the main boom is secured so that it cannot move. Locate it on the boat’s center line;
  • bilges are pumped out.
